The hotel features a swimming pool with a view, perfect for unwinding under the sun on the expansive terrace. Lush gardens surround the property, providing a serene backdrop for your stay. • Adults only, 15 rooms of 23 to 55 square metres

  • Cave Romane Roman quarry 400 metres away

  • Free parking and à la carte breakfast

Our take

Vinkuran by Bura Hotels has just 15 rooms, from 23 to 55 square metres, on Debeli vrv in Vinkuran, the village south of Pula whose Roman quarry, Cave Romane, lies 400 metres away; the outer wall of Pula's Arena was built from its stone. The nearest beach is about 300 metres off and the Kamenjak cape some 5 km. With adults only, a pool area and breakfast served à la carte, it suits couples who want a small, calm base and a car for Istria. I would ask for a sea-view balcony, which only some rooms have. It is not a spa hotel and not on the water.

  • ✓Walk to Cave Romane, 400 metres away: the quarry whose stone built the Arena's outer wall now hosts concerts with around a thousand seats.
  • ✓Keep a full day for the Kamenjak cape, about 5 km south, with its rocky coves at the tip of Istria; a car or bike makes the trip easy.
  • ✓Pula airport is about 12 km away, so a late flight still leaves time for a last swim at the beach 300 metres from the hotel.
  • ✓Ask for a room with a sea-view balcony when booking: only some of the 15 rooms have one, and the others look over the garden.

Why we love it

  • The adults-only tranquil atmosphere
  • Swimming pool with a view
  • Romantic restaurant with diverse cuisine
  • Spacious rooms with garden or sea views
Why guests love it

This is a small, adults-only address, so families are out and the atmosphere stays quiet. With 15 rooms, the pool area never feels like a resort, and breakfast is served à la carte rather than as a buffet. The location is the real asset: a beach about 300 metres away, Cave Romane at 400 metres, the Kamenjak cape 5 km south and Pula's Arena a short drive north. Its weak points deserve saying: the pool is seasonal, the hotel advertises no spa or wellness area, and the beach is a walk rather than a step from the terrace. Rated 8.8 by guests over 519 reviews. I would pick it for a long weekend for two in June or September.
