Our take
Hotel Diaco opened in spring 2026 as the first four-star hotel in Đakovo, with 41 rooms on Kralja Tomislava street, about 300 metres from the two-towered Cathedral of St Peter. That address is the point: the cathedral, the town stables of the State Stud Farm and the cafés of the centre are all on foot, so the car can stay parked. The wellness area has a pool, sauna and hot tub, welcome in a continental town with cold winters and hot summers. I would ask for a cathedral-view room. The hotel also runs a 280-seat wedding hall and a 300-seat congress hall, so some weekends will bring events.
- ✓Ask for a room facing the cathedral: the hotel offers cathedral-view doubles with balconies, and the brick church is the landmark of the whole town.
- ✓Check the dates of Đakovački vezovi, the folk festival that ends on the first weekend of July with Lipizzaner races and concerts in the cathedral, when town rooms fill early.
- ✓Visit the State Stud Farm's stables in the centre on foot, then drive out to Ivandvor, where the rest of the Lipizzaner herd is kept, for the pastures.
- ✓Read the perfect guest score with care: it rests on only nine reviews since the 2026 opening, so the hotel's track record is still being built.
Why we love it
- The comprehensive spa and wellness centre
- Indoor swimming pool, sauna, and hot tub
- Comfortable family rooms with city views
- Family-friendly restaurant with local cuisine
Why guests love itDiaco is a town base for families rather than a resort. Its indoor pool, sauna and hot tub give everyone something to do after a day out, whatever the weather, and the family rooms are air-conditioned. The big draw for children is next door in spirit: the State Stud Farm Đakovo keeps its Lipizzaner horses partly in the town stables and partly at Ivandvor, and summer brings riding performances. The cathedral is close enough for a short walk with small children. What it lacks: the hotel advertises no garden or outdoor play area, and with large wedding and congress halls in the building, some weekends will be busy. I would pick it for two or three nights exploring Slavonia.
